Most simple way to get a list of open ports

Parallel file downloading with wget
xargs can be used in this manner to download multiple files at a time, and xargs will in this case run 10 processes at a time and initiate a new one when the number running falls below 10.

list block devices
Shows all block devices in a tree with descruptions of what they are.

Find all folder in /var that contains log in their path and have more than 10 files inside them, print the folder and the count
-L is for following symbolic links, it can be omitted and then you can find in your whole / dir

Search back through previous commands
Searches backwards through your command-history for the typed text. Repeatedly hitting Ctrl-R will search progressively further. Return invokes the command.
