Set laptop display brightness
Run as root. Path may vary depending on laptop model and video card (this was tested on an Acer laptop with ATI HD3200 video). $ cat /proc/acpi/video/VGA/LCD/brightness to discover the possible values for your display.

pngcrush all .png files in the directory
Find all pngs in directory structure and pngcrush them, none destructive. You can just remove the "{}.crush" part if you want destructive.

Compare an archive with filesystem
and you quickly know the files you changed

grep for minus (-) sign
Use flag "--" to stop switch parsing

Fire CMD every time FILE (or directory) is updated (on *BSD)

A simple command to toggle mute with pulseaudio (any sink)
0 can also be replaced by the source name, e.g. alsa_output.pci-0000_00_1b.0.analog-stereo

Create a random password encrypted with md5 with custom lenght
This was useful to generate random passwords to some webpage users, using the sample code, inside a bash script
