List all symbolic links in current directory that matches regexp
Perl alternative to list symlinks with a clumsy regexp filter: place the regex instead of he example 'libxml' and end it with a wildchar to see the results (previous cd on dir). Is it possible change the '-l' test for '-d' and it will search for directories. [Same applies for -x and -X. See $(perldoc -f -x) for more tests]. I use it quite often when dealing with shared libraries...

Use date to find the date at other days and times.

Open a manpage in the default (graphical) web browser
An easy alias for opening a manpage, nicely HTML formatted, in your set internet browser. If you get a "command exited with status 3" error you need to install groff.

Function to output an ASCII character given its decimal equivalent
I've corrected the function. My octal conversion formula was completely wrong. Thanks to pgas at http://mywiki.wooledge.org/BashFAQ/071 for setting me straight. The new function is from pgas and is very fast.

Escape forward slashes in a variable
For example $ path="/etc/apt/sources.list"; echo ${path//'/'/'\/'} will print $ \/etc\/apt\/sources.list

works "out of the box" on ubuntu 8.10

grep tab (\t)
works in bash

Generate the CPU utilization report
Generated the CPU utilization stats with 5 lines /every 2 seconds. Needs sysstat package to be installed prior to use sar.

Same as below, but no quotes are necessary when twitting more than one word
