Optimal way of deleting huge numbers of files

Using xargs is better than: find /path/to/dir -type f -exec rm \-f {} \; as the -exec switch uses a separate process for each remove. xargs splits the streamed files into more managable subsets so less processes are required.

Creates a customized search command

After you run this script, you can check status for broken symlink with this command: find -L . -type l

determine if a shared library is compiled as 32bit or 64bit

Determines the flavor of a shared library by looking at the addresses of its exposed functions and seeing if they are 16 bytes or 8 bytes long.
