Move large numbers of files

In my job I often have to deal with moving 100,000 files or more. A mv won't do it because there are too many. This will move everything in the current directory to the target path.

Attempt an XSS exploit on commandlinefu.com

Mouse around the title of this item, and note that your cookies are being logged to the console. If I were evil, I could instead send everyone's cookies to my site, and then post up-votes on all my submissions using their cookies, and try to delete every other submission, until clfu was completely pwned by me, redirecting people to malware and porn sites, and so on. Update - now fixed.

Search commandlinefu from the command line

There's probably a more efficient way to do this rather than the relatively long perl program, but perl is my hammer, so text processing looks like a nail. This is of course a lot to type all at once. Set a bookmark as normal shell variable $ p=/cumbersome/path/to/project To go there $ to p This saves one "$" and is faster to type ;-) The variable is still useful as such: $ vim $p/ will expand the variable (at least in bash) and show a list of files to edit. If setting the bookmarks is too much typing you could add another function $ bm() { eval $1=$(pwd); } then bookmark the current directory with $ bm p

Increase SCT of external USB disk enclosure to one hour.

So I had this 2TB Seagate external disk/USB enclosure which by default would spin-down its internal drive (it enters a standby mode) after four minutes of inactivity.. Spinning-up the inactive drive was an annoying delay when accessing files and also it severely interfered with NFS.. SCT stands for "Standby Condition Timer". To completely disable SCT: $ sdparm --clear STANDBY -6 /dev/sdb To return to original (default) SCT settings: $ sdparm -D -p 0x1a -6 /dev/sdb To verify the settings (before and after): $ sdparm -a /dev/sdb No need for vendor-provided MSWIN tools, etc.

Create a backdoor on a machine to allow remote connection to bash

This will launch a listener on the machine that will wait for a connection on port 1234. When you connect from a remote machine with something like : nc 192.168.0.1 1234 You will have console access to the machine through bash.
