find files between specific date/times and move them to another folder

touch -t 201208211200 first ; touch -t 201208220100 last ; creates 2 files: first & last, with timestamps that the find command should look between: 201208211200 = 2012-08-21 12:00 201208220100 = 2012-08-22 01:00 then we run find command with "-newer" switch, that finds by comparing timestamp against a reference file: find /path/to/files/ -newer first ! -newer last meaning: find any files in /path/to/files that are newer than file "first" and not newer than file "last" pipe the output of this find command through xargs to a move command: | xargs -ifile mv -fv file /path/to/destination/ and finally, remove the reference files we created for this operation: rm first; rm last;

Powershell Ping Logs Host Up/Down Events

IMPORTANT: You need Windows PowerShell to run this command - in your Windows Command Prompt, type powershell Uses sajb to start a PowerShell background job that pings an IP host every 10 seconds. Any changes in the host's Up/Down state is time-stamped and logged to a file. Date/time stamps are logged in two formats: Unix and human-readable. A while(1) loop repeats the test every 10 seconds by using the sleep command. See the Sample Output for more detail. This will make your bash scripts better!! process-getopt is a wrapper around getopt(1) for bash that lets you define command line options (eg -h, --help) and descriptions through a single function call. Doubt it actually generates valid mac addresses but this version doesn't need any external commands so it runs much faster. Much shorter as well.

Which processes are listening on a specific port (e.g. port 80)

swap out "80" for your port of interest. Can use port number or named ports e.g. "http"

You're running a script, command, whatever.. You don't expect it to take long, now 5pm has rolled around and you're ready to go home... Wait, it's still running... You forgot to nohup it before running it... Suspend it, send it to the background, then disown it... The ouput wont go anywhere, but at least the command will still run...
