if you are alone and have to determine which switch port your server ends ... here we go

use this comand to see which switch port your network interface is using. but remind, there is no network traffic for 10 minutes or how long you run the comand. if you start the comand via ssh, port will come up again after the "for loop" has endet

Get the full path of a bash script's Git repository head.

Rather than complicated and fragile paths relative to a script like "../../other", this command will retrieve the full path of the file's repository head. Safe with spaces in directory names. Works within a symlinked directory. Broken down: $cd "$(dirname "${BASH_SOURCE[0]}")" temporarily changes directories within this expansion. Double quoted "$(dirname" and ")" with unquoted ${BASH_SOURCE[0]} allows spaces in the path. $git rev-parse --show-toplevel gets the full path of the repository head of the current working directory, which was temporarily changed by the "cd".

Search recursively to find a word or phrase in certain file types, such as C code

I have a bash alias for this command line and find it useful for searching C code for error messages. The -H tells grep to print the filename. you can omit the -i to match the case exactly or keep the -i for case-insensitive matching. This find command find all .c and .h files
